As the name suggests a naming ceremony is a ceremony at which a name is conferred upon a child. The child may be a new-born, an adopted child or a child or children from blended families. A naming ceremony can also be thought of as the secular equivalent of a christening ceremony and is often an option for families without strong religious beliefs.
Naming ceremonies can take place shortly after birth or on the occasion of the child’s first birthday. I will work with you to plan a naming ceremony that is relevant to you and your child’s needs. Because your child is the focus of a naming ceremony it is preferable that the ceremony is of short duration. You and your child will receive a naming certificate to commemorate the day.
As part of the naming ceremony you can name Godparents or mentors for your child and select appropriate readings or poems.
